Paritech's DataDirector
Features and Benefits
How does DataDirector update data?
DataDirector2 can update your data in several different ways. Create a
Favorites folder with an editor such as the Equis Downloader and DataDirector2
will update those stocks. Have all of your data go into a singular folder or select one of
the predefined Distribution Lists, one of which will put all stocks into their respective
Indices Sector folder e.g. all retailers go into a Retailers Folder as can be seen in the
image below. And the other that will separate all stocks and put them into an Equities
folder a Warrants Folder and an Options folder.

Can DataDirector2 copy from an existing
database?
You can use the Copy facility in
DataDirector2 to copy from an existing database into a new database that you have created.
As an example create a Wizard utilizing the Distribution List for
Equities/Warrants/Options then using the Copy function select your existing
database and copy it to your new database. You now have an Equities,
Warrants and Options folder that contains all the historical data.
Can I use DataDirector2 for programs that limit folder content to 255 files
(shares)
DataDirector2 has the ability to handle those
programs that limit their folder contents to 255 files (shares) per folder. For programs
like SuperCharts and TradeStation you will no longer need to download text file and go
through a conversion process before the data is usable. Simply create the appropriate
wizard and DataDirector2 will take care of creating the A, A1, A2 folders, B, B1, B2
folders, C, C1, C2, etc.
Can DataDirector2
download data for individual stocks?
DataDirector2 has the ability to download data for individual Stocks (max of 20 stocks
at a time) so, for example, let us assume that you have accidentally deleted all the
historical data for AMP, BHP and CBA, now you can simply download
the historical data for just those stocks.

How does the data download and how long
does it take?
All data is downloaded over the Internet from our servers. For redundancy purposes, we
have servers located in the United States and Australia.
The download time for a market is generally in the range of one to two minutes. For
example, the download file size for the complete Australian Stock Exchange is
approximately 50kb, with an update time, depending on computer and modem specifications of
two minutes.
What happens if I miss a days download?
DataDirector allows you to download up to two months history data if you are unable to
download for a period of time. Longer periods can be downloaded by calling our technical
support staff.
Does DataDirector support intraday downloads?
Yes. DataDirector, for the Australian Stock Exchange, supports an hourly update
option. This optional feature allows you to update your trading software on the hour. This
is not available for other markets at this point in time.
What time can I download the information?
Australian (ASX) prices are available in before and after midnight options. In
addition, the before midnight option can also be upgraded to intraday (see above).
Before midnight users can download the 5pm update. The final feed from the ASX is
disseminated at 8.00 pm. It is important that clients download this snapshot as it
contains final corrected prices for the day.
Sydney Futures Exchange data is available around 8:00 pm. Overseas
exchange data is generally available the following morning, however
times may vary depending on whether daylight savings time is in
effect and the market subscribed to.
What about the free download services out there?
Good question. Building and supporting a reliable and sustainable download service is
a costly business. Paritechs data service has been running since 1996. In that time,
we have seen many data providers come and go. The quality of our service is attested to with our current subscriber base of over 11,000
clients.
One thing we have seen close up is the inconvenience caused to investors when their data
provider closes down. Many providers disseminate non industry standard formats for both
their history databases and downloads. It can be quite a costly exercise to replace these
items if your provider disappears.
Also, be careful in regards to the providers that charge you via a one time payment of
many hundreds of dollars for software, promising free data for life! Paritech, like every
other legitimate data providers, is required by the rules of the stock exchanges (for
example, the ASX) to remit royalties for each provider each month.
Moral of the story You get what you pay for!
What other information does DataDirector provide?
DataDirector provides additional in-depth information for the investor via its snapshot
function. Information includes top performing companies for the day, stocks hitting new
fifty two week highs and stocks breaking out of ranges. In addition, a portfolio manager
plus watchlist is provided to help the Investor manage their Investments.
