Without a sound understanding of formula language basics we restrict our ability to fully utilize the software. Many of the advanced features of MetaStock require us to input security or indicator parameters prior to calculation.

We therefore run into immediate problems if we do not know how to communicate with the software. As with all computer programs, there is always a design trade off between ease of use and functionality (or alternatively flexibility).

MetaStock was designed as a "tool box" orientated program, that is, a program which affords the greatest display and analysis flexibility to the end user whilst balancing this with an intuitive feature set objectivity.

In keeping with this, MetaStock comes with its own library of over one hundred pre-written indicator profiles as part of the standard package. Any of these can be selected or indeed grouped and copied into your own custom formulas. In many instances, all the user need do is select the indicator they wish to use and then tell the software what period to apply to the calculation.
